Hiatus

Sorry guys, I have taken a bit of an unplanned welcomed hiatus from the blog for a few weeks

I have been enjoying life and possibly starting to have a mid-life crisis (more on that in another post)

Things have been quite hectic here.. here are some photos of my life lately

 

What have you been up to lately?

Mini Vaca: Dominican Republic

A couple weeks ago, we took off on a jet plane to the Dominican

I found an all inclusive for $50/night and 4 nights off. I couldn't pass it up.

It was pretty awsome, but I do not think I will be cheap again when it comes to all inclusive resorts. 

Have you been traveling lately?

A calendar twist

So we were in desperate need of a calendar to keep all of our dates straight.

Who worked when and what days and what days we would have off together.

I didn't have a plan but I started with sticky white board material on the fridge, I liked it but it looked pieced together and blended in with the fridge too much for my liking.

So I went the other route, chalkboard sticky paper :) and some chalk board markers and we were in business, but again a little boring

I found this wood frame at michael's 

painted it yellow and instantly fell in love. 

I love the way it came out and it is so easy for us to tell when we are doing what.

Outdoor overhaul: Part I (the front yard)

 So, we have a party we are hosting soon and it gave us a swift kick in the rear to get our outdoor spaces party ready again. 

Two years ago this is what the front looked like:

Kind of plain with no pizazz or color

I was in need of some major changes, So I did some switch-a-roos with the furniture we had 

I rook a wreath I had added a $1 pinwheel from target and a wood bird from michael's 

( that I painted yellow and a cute small flower pot)

I moved a bench from the backyard to the front added some flower pots, a lantern and new pillows from pier 1

I love all the colors and flowers, they make me happy. 

I like traveling..

You hear everyone say it, but do they really mean it?

I mean honestly, until now, all of my prior vacations were filled to the brim with the feeling of being rushed to meet up with people and see things. 

It honestly never felt like a vacation. 

Well, I am about to leave for my 4th trip this year and I can honestly say I like traveling, for me. 

I don't plan an agenda, I go for my scheduled days off and just see whats out there. 

If I like it, I can always go back.

We usually only have a few days and if we (or I should say I) just want to lay on the beach and do nothing, I can. 

Traveling is a lot easier when your not on a schedule and you get there, when you get there.

Managing airports has become a lot easier and I am starting to find tricks (like don't wear bobby pins in your hair during security because they will mess it up) and liking certain airports over others. 

I have also found some amazing deals when you fly last minute 

(I'll talk about those later)

Do you dread traveling or do you enjoy it?

P and I had 3 days off together and we wanted to go somewhere we haven't been

So, we went to.. Puerto Rico

IT WAS AMAZING!

We used the website airbnb.com to rent a room in a condo and rented a car for the experience

Pouf this: part 2

 So, if you missed it Saturday I posted some inspiration for a crocheted pouf  Here

Well, I promptly got started on my own pouf

I found this pattern on pinterest and tweaked it to my own discretion.

(I never did the single crochet as mentioned and added more rows than it states)

After 2 hours this is 

I love it.

The same day I went to target and found there interpretation of the pouf for $50

I spent $6.

I had to buy one skein of yarn ($5.99 at walmart), had the poly fil and the other skein of yarn

I used the Lions brand thick wool and a large crochet needle (pictured below).

I suggest a large needle especially when you are closing because you are making some very big stitches at the end. 

So that how I made my own pouf. What do you think?
