marathon: #8

While I was in LA last week, besides reminiscing about my past I was running a marathon
So, lets preface with I did not train, I was wrong and it hurt.
Ok, so we got that out of the way.
(You can find race recaps and old  times here)

The course began at dodger stadium and ended at santa monica beach.
The course started with hills (or if your a midwesterner or me they felt like mountains)

I split the race in 3: downtown LA, Hollywood and the beach

You ran through downtown LA
Passing the opera house (that we use to frequent) and the disney concert hall

Than off to hollywood where people were lined down the streets being energetic and just a good time.
My best friend was in hollywood waiting for me.
That and her song call me maybe pretty much made that section.
Leaving hollywood to get to the beach, we passed West hollywood where "The Queens" were hanging out in the masses. Probably one of my favorite parts because of the effort and they looked so good.

After this point in the race I fell apart and just wanted it to be over.
I eventually picked my self back up thanks to my sister and kept it going.
It was hard, but you know I finished it running.
My official time was 6:13. Not my best or my worst.

My medal was the best part, that and totally vegging out on inn n out with my mom after.
(sorry I have no other pictures, the official ones I can no longer use and there pretty bad too)

Any goals or runs you have completed recently?

Feeling petri?

So, today after a small absence I went to my favorite thrift store, The I.D.E.A. store
I found all of this for $13.00!

Pretty impressive I thought. In the container, 10 petri dishes.
I found some inspiration from the army men and just went with it.

How about some coasters?

I love coasters and am always looking for a new way to make them interesting.
So, I took my different items and put them in the petri dishes

hot glued the sides

Placed felt on the bottom

and WAH-LA! That's it. So easy.

I love the way they came out.

Project Pals: March

So, I have talked about how one of my favorite bloggers Jamie at C.R.A.F.T hosts Project pals every couple months. It is limited to 100 people

Well, this month I was in the lucky 100
My pal was a girl named Catherine who likes black, pink and gold and loves day of the dead
So, I got to thinking and for some reason I am obsessed with ipad/kindle covers

So that is what I crocheted her a cover for her kindle fire

(sure it is a risk, but I love the way it came out)

I used her favorite colors (black, pink and gold)
Found a skull and flower pattern and went from there.

What do you think? I personally love it.

home sweet LA

As you may or may not know, I am from Los Angeles (LA) California. It is home.
I moved to the midwest almost 5 years ago and with P's new job I am frequenting more often.

As I was there last week I came to the conclusion that LA is bitter sweet place for me.
I still have really good friends that live there and of course my family, but at the same time I am constantly reminded of the not so great times as well.

When I was running around the "city", I use that term loosely because its more of sprawling metropolis, I would be reminded  of my exs. I  do not talk to any of them at this time, but I feel like in a way I "ran away" from all of these stereotypes and problems, so that I could establish a new life for myself.

Well, I have done just that.
I have a lovely house, an amazing husband and a real job doing what I love.
I still feel like I just don't fit in here. I am the person they want me to be, as opposed to the person I am.
I find myself being more reserved or keeping my mouth shut because I want to be liked.

It is just different, but in a good way.
It is hard to compare, but Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama said it best by saying," This fits too." referring to living in Alabama and New York.

Let's get real: pilot husbands

So, a bunch of people ask me how I go days to weeks without seeing my husband
I talked about our distance relationship Here
This post is more of an update and routine

P started a new job, as a pilot, flying people in January.
Although, he is making less money this is an upgrade in his industry and very exciting
So, during orientation he would be in St. Louis during the week and home on the weekends
Same as before, just a different state.

With my current work schedule, I work 3x a week, 12 hrs at a time
When P was in Cinncinatti I worked at 830a -430p ,
with this job I don't have as much time to think about things or worry about P
Which is a deffinate bonus.
The time I spend with husband is valuable and we enjoy each others company, more now than ever.
But let me be the first to say it's not perfect.
Routine is key in our life and I feel like when P is here that routine is changed.
It's just different,  not bad.

Also, I like my freedom. I like being independent and having my own routine.
I don't depend on P for Anything, but his love.
With derby, crafting, etc. it keeps me busy.
I like how things are, do I wish my husband was around more?
Sure, but I don't regret it either.
It just works for now with no kids around, I am sure it will change but for now it works.

I hope this gives you some insight to my crazy world.
Let me know I'd you have any questions.

The big 8

So, I don't know the exact time or day.
What I do know was that I was still in a funk and it was January.
The weather was unusually nice and I had the brilliant idea of thinking of running my 8th marathon.
I don't know what possessed me to do it, but I remember it changing everything.

That was roughly 6 weeks and 65 miles ago.
So, you guessed it. I am running my 8th marathon in 6 days
I am undertrained and overweight, but sometimes that the best combination for things.
I am not scarred, or worried, or freaked out.

I just am.
I know its suppose to be 90+ degrees and sunny.
OH WELL!
I can't change it, so I will just live with it.
Kinda my motto at this point.

Any crazy things you have done lately?

P.S. I'll let you know how it goes. I am actually very excited for this course I have not ran yet.
