Halloween 2015

So, I just realized that I never posted about our family costume last Halloween.
I do realize we are 2 months out and I am already planning for this year but that's life.

W was Pebbles from the Flintstones

I made a pinafore dress and stuck black felt on it and some blue bloomers.
The car behind her was made over a cozy truck we got for free and used as a base.
It's amazing what some cardboard, paint and wood could do.

We took the car trick or treating, although she can walk it's not very far.

This is the family.
P's costume was orange felt sewed in a tube made longer with black felt triangles a and a blue felt tie.
My dress is also made from felt.
The necklace is styrofoam balls cut into geometric shapes to look like rocks.
I used felt because it's sturdy and doesn't need hemming.

What were you for Halloween? What are you going to be this year?

halloween costumes of halloween pasts

As October is quickly approaching.. How did that happen?
ANyways, I was going through pictures of Halloween pasts and looking at my Halloween costumes.

Let's get something straight.. I love Halloween, I love getting dressed up and I love making my own costumes.

So here we go..

2008: P is a pilot and I am plane decal; one of the pin-up girls painted on his plane.

2009: We just moved into our new house and I found this dress at a thrift store. Pretty self explanatory.. Lucille Ball

2010: a 5 pack of crayons

and my individual costume as an orange crayon

2011: We went to a zombie themed roller derby bout in October and I made this whole outfit for $1

and than for halloween we did Super Mario Brothers + a 90's kid playing the game as a group costume
I was princess peach, again the dress was a another thrift store find

2012: the cast of Sleeping Beauty as a group
I was Merryweather, the blue fairy

2013: I had the help of my mom on this one and pretty much was still sewing this together the day of the party. It was my take on Ariel, The Little Mermaid.

And last but not least..
2014: My daughter and I as popcorn and a concession lady

SO there you have halloween costumes of my halloween past. I already have an idea of what we are going to be this year, but have not started to make them yet.

What are your favorites? What are you going to be this year?

Down under the sea..

So, I love disney and anything disney related.
I grew up with disney princesses and disney classics.
In my adult life I have always wanted to be the little mermaid, but with group costumes, etc
that wasn't plausible.
So with P already living in California it was the perfect opportunity.

I went pursuing the internets and pinterest to find inspiration.
It needed to be:
1. semi-comfortable
2. able to walk
3. look pretty

So for inspiration I found Christian Siriano in this costume

Which is pretty fabulous

than found when he was on Martha Stewart to show the diy portion of it. I took both inspiration and put them together to get more of an Ariel feel.

I bought i shape shifter tank top on sale at walmart for $5 and attached real sea shells to it and painted them various shades of purple

For the skirt I found a pencil lame skirt at ragstock for $15 and added the organza as described in the tutorial on martha stewart. We tried sewing the organza on but it eventually kept falling off so I started hot gluing it on

For some bling and pizzazz I added rhinestones and pearls to the bra and sequins to the fin.

What do you think?

halloween mantel

I am still alive, behind in blogging and the crafting is non-stop this time of year.

After the baby shower I quickly got to work on my halloween mantel/decor
I found some inspiration from this site

I had a dollar store glittered skull from last year, put on a mustache and made a top hat.
Made a sign and pulled out some scrabble letters.

On top of the grain bin..

I painted my fake pumpkin silver and added a crow from Michael's on top of a black candle stick holder. We had to show off our group award tombstone from last year.

There your have it, the halloween wrap up.. finally. I don't have any pictures of outside.. bad blogger. oh well. what do you think?

halloween crafts: dinning room

I last left you with the costume awards I made here
Today we are going to talk about the dinning room as it transforms to halloween party ready

Lets start with this darling dancing skeleton table runner

The fabric is from joann's and I used the same tutorial as the diy baby shower found here

I love this picture found here on pinteret

I just needed a little more spook and little less class
so here is my rendition

I love the way it turned out

and the illusion of bleeding candles

I took a red tapered candle and waited for wax and dripped it along the sides of all the candles

Moving on to the infamous window

And of course I had to use some spider webs on the chandelier in the dinning room

What do you think? Do you decorate your dinning room?

Halloween crafts: costume awards

Let's start off with halloween is my favorite time of year. The weather is awsome (love fall, mainly because i didn't have it growing up) and any time I can dress up I do, duh!.

So this year we took over the halloween party from a few friends of ours and planning has been in process for a few weeks now.

We had to have awards and I decided on doings these guys, which i found on pinterest

This is Mizerella's rendition from 102 wicked things to do

pretty awsome right?

I found these 16in skeletons at Dollar tree picked up 4 and found these plaques for less than 75 cents and some gold spray paint with a 40% off coupons from michaels and I was all set.

So take your skeleton and follow her instructions. I took my joints apart and glues them together on the plaque and than spray paint

This is my award for best costume. (yes, he is side ways because he is cool liek that)

This is the award for best couple or group

pretty cool right? I have one more to make but it was so easy.
What do you use as awards?
Want one, well you have to earn it.

"Paper" Queen

This past weekend we traveled to Quincy, Illinois which is about a 4 hours drive from here to see one of my friends play in a roller derby bout. Well, it goes without saying, P and I dressed up.

There were two contests; best zombie and best overall. I won the best overall and peter won the best zombie. We are just the best husband and wife costume couple ever right? It was a pretty awsome win for us.

Anyways, back to me. I made the whole outfit for $1. I bought a dress from Karens closet for $1. The skirt of the dress is sewed on. The top is stapled on and the bottom of the top portion is held on by a real belt under that paper belt which is stapled on me. The wig was an inspiration by the lovely Martha S. herself which can be seen here. I also took a burger king crown and decorated with newspaper and added flowers that were just stamped with an ink pad and folded. So, what do you think?

Anything fun for halloween planned?

I am planning on being princess peach from Mario bros. but haven't figured out all the details yet.

I really love fall now that I live in the midwest and can actually enjoy it. My favorite is watching the leaves change color. =) well today peter and I went to the orchard and picked our own pumpkins and apples had some cider and started on our pumpkins. We got two of them done before I go to work. I wish it could never end. I had a lot of fun today reminds me of childhood all over again. =)
